India, Netherlands Pledge to Strengthen Ties Following PMs’ Call

NEW DELHI/THE HAGUE—Dutch Prime Minister Dick Schoof and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke by phone, focusing on strengthening bilateral relations and cooperation. The conversation, confirmed via X posts by both leaders, covered a range of topics.

PM Schoof highlighted opportunities for closer collaboration through a strategic partnership encompassing security, water management, green hydrogen, agriculture, semiconductors, and healthcare. The Ukraine conflict was also discussed.

PM Modi echoed the commitment to strengthening ties, referring to the Netherlands as a “trusted & valued partner.” He specifically mentioned advancing cooperation in water, agriculture, security, technology, semiconductors, and renewable energy.

This call follows PM Modi’s earlier congratulations to PM Schoof upon assuming office in July, where he expressed a desire for close collaboration in areas such as renewable energy, water management, agriculture, mobility, and new technologies.

The India-Netherlands relationship, established in 1947, enjoys strong political, economic, and commercial ties, with water, agriculture, and health identified as key sectors of cooperation, alongside technology and innovation, according to the Indian Embassy in the Netherlands. The 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations was celebrated in 2022.
