Wellington, 1 June 2025 – The spiritual heart of Wellington is set to glow with the light of 1100 diyas as the Gayatri Pariwar Wellington hosts the grand “1100 Deep Gayatri Mahayagya” in celebration of Gayatri Jayanti 2025. Supported by main sponsor Kamuben Nana, this auspicious event will take place on Sunday, 1 June, from 1:30 pm at St. Patrick’s College, 581 Evans Bay Parade, Kilbirnie.
A Sacred Gathering of Light and Wisdom
Gayatri Jayanti marks the divine appearance of Goddess Gayatri, revered as the embodiment of the Gayatri Mantra and the Mother of all Vedas. The Gayatri Mantra, one of the most ancient and powerful prayers in Hinduism, is a profound invocation for enlightenment, wisdom, and universal harmony. This year’s celebration will be highlighted by the lighting of 1100 lamps (deep), symbolising the collective aspiration for spiritual illumination and peace.
The Mahayagya—an elaborate Vedic fire ritual—will be conducted with deep devotion and traditional grandeur. The ritual involves chanting the Gayatri Mantra, offering sacred items into the holy fire, and praying for the wellbeing of all. Such a gathering not only honours the goddess but also strengthens the bonds of community and shared purpose.

The Significance of Gayatri Jayanti and Mahayagya
Gayatri Jayanti is a day of immense spiritual importance. It commemorates the revelation of the Gayatri Mantra by Sage Vishwamitra, a mantra that has guided seekers for millennia. The Gayatri Mantra is not only a prayer for personal enlightenment but also for the upliftment of all beings. Chanting and meditating on this mantra is believed to purify the mind, foster clarity, and awaken higher consciousness.
The Gayatri Mahayagya, performed with the lighting of 1100 lamps, amplifies these intentions. The ritual fire is said to purify the environment, remove negative energies, and bestow peace and prosperity upon participants and the wider community. The collective chanting and offerings create a powerful spiritual atmosphere, inviting blessings for health, harmony, and success.
Benefits of Participating in the Gayatri Mahayagya
- Spiritual Growth: Awakens inner wisdom and deepens one’s connection to the divine.
- Mental Peace: The rhythmic chanting and meditative focus calm the mind and reduce stress.
- Family Harmony: Prayers offered together strengthen family bonds and promote unity.
- Community Wellbeing: The event fosters a sense of belonging and shared purpose among Wellington’s Hindu community.
- Environmental Purification: The offerings made during the yagna are believed to purify the air and surroundings, promoting ecological balance.
