Analyzing data from a two-year trial on caloric restriction in humans, the researchers discovered that although both the calorie-restricted group and the control group ended the study with similar telomere lengths, they lost telomeres at different rates. Telomeres, which shorten with each cell replication, play a crucial role in cellular aging.
