Ludhiana, India – Defence expert DS Dhillon has asserted that recent firing along the Line of Control (LoC), initiated by the Pakistan Army, is a strategic tactic aimed at diverting the Indian Army’s attention. Speaking to reporters on Friday, Dhillon indicated that such actions likely serve the purpose of evacuating personnel stationed in border areas under Indian surveillance.
“Whenever there is firing on the LoC, it has a purpose. Either the Pakistani Army wants to send in men to actually attack certain Indian posts, or there’s heightened pressure requiring them to evacuate individuals from the border area. The firing is done to divert the Indian Army’s attention so that some men can be safely evacuated,” Dhillon explained, referencing current heightened activity by Indian security forces and government agencies.
Immediate Retaliation by the Indian Army
Earlier on Friday, Pakistani troops opened fire at various locations along the LoC, prompting swift retaliation by Indian forces. “Small arms firing at some places on the Line of Control initiated by the Pakistan Army. Effectively responded to by the Indian Army. No casualties,” Indian Army officials confirmed.
Pahalgam Terrorist Attack Spurs High Alert
The heightened activity along the LoC comes in the wake of the Pahalgam terrorist attack in Jammu and Kashmir on 22 April, where gunmen targeted tourists at Baisaran Meadow. The attack left 25 Indian nationals and one Nepali citizen dead, with several others injured. In response, the Indian Army launched extensive search operations to neutralise the terrorists involved.
Army Chief Reviews Security Measures
In light of recent developments, Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi reached Udhampur on Friday to review security arrangements at the Northern Command headquarters. According to officials, General Dwivedi received briefings on the security situation in key areas along the LoC, including the Poonch-Rajouri districts and regions south of the Pir Panjal mountain range.
Earlier in the day, General Dwivedi visited Srinagar, where he reviewed the ongoing security situation in the Union Territory. During his visit, the 15 Corps Commander briefed him on current operations, and the Army Chief met with senior military commanders deployed in the Kashmir Valley, alongside officials from other security agencies.
Strategic Implications
Dhillon’s analysis underscores the tactical nature of LoC engagements and the broader security dynamics between India and Pakistan. The recent firing and subsequent retaliation reflect the persistent tensions in the region, compounded by incidents like the Pahalgam attack. As the Indian Army continues its operations and maintains high alert, the strategic implications of these developments remain closely monitored.
India’s unwavering commitment to securing its borders and protecting civilian lives reinforces the importance of vigilance and coordinated efforts among its defence forces. The coming days are expected to yield further insights into the evolving situation along the LoC.
