Auckland, 2 May 2025 – The Hindu Swayamsevak Sangh (New Zealand), in association with various Bharatiya diaspora organisations, will hold a solemn community gathering on Sunday, 4 May 2025, to pay tribute to the innocent lives lost in the recent terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu & Kashmir, Bharat.
The event, titled “Prayers & Shradhanjali”, is scheduled to take place from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM at the Diversity Center, 25 Tui Road, Papatoetoe, Auckland. Gates will open at 9:30 AM.
This collective prayer and remembrance event is being held in response to the brutal and targeted attack on Hindu pilgrims in Pahalgam on 22 April 2025, which has left communities across the globe, including here in Aotearoa New Zealand, shaken and mourning. The violence claimed the lives of several innocent people, sending waves of grief through the international Hindu diaspora.
Organisers say the event offers an opportunity for members of the wider Indian and Kiwi communities to come together in solidarity, reflect on the tragedy, and offer spiritual support for the departed souls and their bereaved families.
“We invite everyone—regardless of background—to join in paying respects and offering heartfelt tributes for the victims of this horrific act,” said Shrikant Bhave, Sanghchalak of HSS NZ. “Such events are important not only to mourn but to reaffirm our commitment to peace, unity, and shared human values.”
Dinesh Pahuja, the Sampark Pramukh (Community Liaison Lead), added, “This is not just about remembering those we lost, but about standing united against violence and hate. As New Zealanders and as part of the global Hindu community, we feel this loss deeply.”
The gathering will include collective prayers, moments of silence, and reflections, creating space for the community to process grief and show moral support to affected families.
The organisers emphasised that everyone is welcome and encouraged attendees to arrive early.
