A candlelight vigil is set to take place at Aotea Square in Auckland this Thursday evening to honour the victims of the recent attacks in Kashmir. Organised by community member Rahul Chopra, the vigil will be held from 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM and is open to the public.
The gathering aims to bring together members of the Indian diaspora, peace advocates, and local residents in a collective act of remembrance and solidarity.
“This vigil is a way for us to show that the pain and loss felt in Kashmir are shared by communities across the world,” said organiser Rahul Chopra. “We stand for peace, unity, and justice for all victims of violence.”
Participants will light candles and observe a moment of silence in tribute to those affected by the ongoing unrest in the region. Attendees are also encouraged to bring placards and messages of peace as a show of support.
With dozens already expressing their intent to attend via social media, the event is expected to draw a significant turnout, reflecting the deep concern among New Zealand’s Indian community and allies.
The vigil is intended to be a peaceful and respectful gathering, offering a space for reflection, solidarity, and the call for a more compassionate global response to conflict.
