Agartala, Tripura, India – Acting on intelligence inputs, law enforcement authorities detained four Bangladeshi nationals at Agartala Railway Station on Saturday for allegedly entering India illegally. The individuals were reportedly attempting to travel to other states by train.
The operation was jointly conducted by personnel from the Agartala Government Railway Police Station (GRPS), the Railway Protection Force (RPF), and the intelligence department. Preliminary interrogation revealed that the detainees intended to travel to Bengaluru and Chennai.
Details of the Detention
According to an official release, the detained individuals were identified as follows:
- Zahidul Islam, alias Jahir (42), from Dhaka
- Dilwar Hossain (44), from Shariatpur
- Jamirul Islam (27), from Panchagarh
- Mohammad Zia (35), from Jamalpur
A case has been registered at the Agartala GRP Police Station, and the accused are set to be produced before the court on Sunday. Officials indicated that further arrests may follow as investigations progress.
Human Trafficking Ring Busted
Earlier on the same day, the Agartala Government Railway Police (GRP) achieved another breakthrough, arresting five individuals for their alleged involvement in human trafficking. Acting on a secret tip-off, the operation was a collaborative effort involving the GRP, the 81st Battalion of the Border Security Force (BSF), Sonamura Police Station, and Jatrapur Police Station.
The joint operation spanned multiple areas, including Kathalia Mura, Urmai, Majidabari, and Birampur. The arrested individuals had been absconding for a prolonged period. They were identified as:
- Jalil Miah (41) and Md Hasan (31) from Dhanpur Majidabari under Sonamura Police Station in Sepahijala District
- Monir Hossain (37), Jashim Uddin (36), and Alamgir Hossain (37) from Kathalia, Birampur under Jatrapur Police Station in Sepahijala District
Ongoing Investigation
The Agartala GRP Police confirmed that a special team is conducting intensive interrogations, and additional arrests may be made in connection with the cases. The arrested individuals will be presented in court, where the police will seek remand for further investigation.
