Guyana Stands in Solidarity with India Against Terrorism, Says Vice President Bharrat Jagdeo

Georgetown, Guyana – In a strong diplomatic show of support, Vice President of Guyana, Bharrat Jagdeo, reaffirmed his country’s unwavering solidarity with India in its fight against cross-border terrorism, stating that all perpetrators must be brought to justice. His remarks came during a high-profile meeting with an Indian all-party parliamentary delegation, led by Congress MP Shashi Tharoor, which arrived in Guyana on Sunday (local time).

Diplomatic Support Against Terrorism

Jagdeo welcomed the Indian delegation, stating: “It was an excellent visit. I assured the delegation that Guyana stands unequivocally with India. We are against terrorism and believe all those who perpetrate terrorist activities must be brought to justice. We are happy that the delegation came from India to Guyana.”

Indian Parliamentary Delegation’s Mission

The multi-party delegation included leaders from diverse political backgrounds:

  • Shambhavi Chaudhary (Lok Janshakti Party)
  • Sarfaraz Ahmed (Jharkhand Mukti Morcha)
  • G M Harish Balayagi (Telugu Desam Party)
  • Shashank Mani Tripathi, Tejaswi Surya, Bhubaneswar K Lata (all from BJP)
  • Mallikarjun Devda (Shiv Sena)
  • Former Indian Ambassador to the US, Taranjit Singh Sandhu

This collective political effort signals India’s unified stance against cross-border terrorism and its outreach to the global community to amplify India’s message of zero tolerance toward terror activities.

Indian Diaspora’s Support for India’s Counterterrorism Action

Members of the Indian diaspora in Guyana extended a warm welcome to the delegation, expressing support for India’s decisive counterterrorism response against Pakistan-based terror infrastructure.

Congress MP Shashi Tharoor, addressing the gathering, emphasized the need for global action against terrorism: “Our message is clear. We must stand against terrorism wherever it comes from. We must not only bring the killers to justice but also challenge those who finance, train, and equip them.”

Similarly, BJP MP Tejasvi Surya elaborated on India’s consistent battle against Pakistan-sponsored terrorism over seven decades, stating: “Across political parties, across regions of India, we express our solidarity against terrorism in one voice. This is not just an Indian problem—it is a global issue, as Pakistan’s terror infrastructure has played a role in attacks worldwide, including in London, Sri Lanka, Paris, and even the 9/11 attacks in the United States.”

Briefing on Operation Sindoor

The delegation’s visit to Guyana comes in the wake of India’s military offensive—Operation Sindoor—launched on May 7 as a decisive response to the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack, which claimed 26 lives.

India’s precision strikes targeted terror infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu & Kashmir (PoJK), eliminating over 100 terrorists linked to groups like Jaish-e-Mohammed, Lashkar-e-Taiba, and Hizbul Mujahideen.

Strategic Implications of India-Guyana Relations

Guyana’s public endorsement of India’s counterterrorism actions reflects strengthening diplomatic ties between the two nations. The engagement highlights India’s proactive outreach to global partners, reinforcing international consensus on addressing terrorism as a collective responsibility.

Looking Ahead

With India’s continued push for diplomatic cooperation in its fight against terror, the visit to Guyana serves as a key step in rallying global support for stronger anti-terror policies and countermeasures.
