London, UK – Members of the Indian community and diaspora gathered outside the Pakistan High Commission in London on Friday, staging a powerful protest against the recent terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir. The demonstration, marked by solidarity and sorrow, conveyed strong condemnation of Pakistan’s alleged role in sheltering terror groups responsible for such heinous acts.
A Show of Unity and Justice
Protesters holding Indian flags, banners, and placards demanded justice for the 26 lives lost in the tragic attack at Baisaran Meadow on 22 April. The group, comprised of individuals from diverse age groups and backgrounds, united in expressing grief and anger against terrorism.
While the protest remained peaceful, slogans denouncing terrorism and criticising Pakistan were raised, underscoring the diaspora’s collective demand for accountability and global action against terror.
India’s Diplomatic Response
Amid escalating tensions, the Indian government announced a sweeping policy shift on Friday. Effective 27 April, it revoked all categories of visas issued to Pakistani nationals, except for long-term, diplomatic, and official visas. Medical visas will remain valid only until 29 April.
In a statement, the Ministry of Home Affairs said, “The Government of India has revoked all existing Visas issued to Pakistani nationals, except Long Term Visas, Diplomatic and Official visas, with immediate effect from 27th April 2025. Medical Visas issued to Pakistani nationals will be valid only till 29th April 2025.”
Heightened Security Measures
Union Home Secretary Govind Mohan held a video conference with state chief secretaries to ensure swift implementation of these measures. The instructions include identifying and deporting Pakistani nationals currently residing within India. The new policy is part of a broader effort to tighten border security in response to the Pahalgam terrorist attack.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah has personally directed state chief ministers to expedite the deportation process, reiterating the government’s commitment to safeguarding national security.
