KATHMANDU—Nepali President Ram Chandra Paudel appointed Shankar Prasad Sharma as Nepal’s ambassador to India. The appointment, made on Wednesday, also includes Netra Prasad Timilsina as ambassador to Malaysia. Both appointments were made per Article 282 (1) of the Nepali Constitution, based on the Council of Ministers’ recommendation.
Sharma previously served as ambassador to India from March 2022 to July 2024, returning to the post following India’s agreement on December 13th. His reappointment follows a period of political change in Nepal, including his recall in May 2024 and subsequent renomination after a new coalition government formed in August. Parliamentary approval was granted in September.
The strong India-Nepal relationship, characterized by close people-to-people ties and shared cultural heritage, is further strengthened by frequent high-level exchanges and extensive cooperation in defense and security, including modernization efforts of the Nepali Army with Indian support.
