Earlier this morning, a tragic accident occurred in New Plymouth, resulting in the death of one individual after a vehicle crashed into a house. The incident took place on Riversdale Drive in the Merrilands area around 9:15 am.
Emergency services quickly responded to the scene following the report of the collision. Police confirmed that, unfortunately, the sole occupant of the vehicle died at the scene of the crash.
St John Ambulance Service dispatched three ambulances, a rapid response vehicle, and an operations manager to the location. Additionally, one person from the house, where the vehicle collided, was transported to Taranaki Base Hospital in a moderate condition.
Authorities confirmed that this person was an occupant of the address that the vehicle crashed into.
The road is currently closed as the serious crash unit conducts a thorough examination of the scene. Police have advised motorists to seek alternative routes and anticipate delays while the investigation is ongoing.
