Warriors Secure Super Rugby Champion Patricia Maliepo

In a significant move, Black Fern Patricia Maliepo, fresh off the Blues’ Super Rugby Aupiki victory, has made a switch in codes to join the Warriors for the upcoming NRLW season. The 22-year-old, with 10 Black Ferns caps under her belt, has been announced as the Warriors’ 23rd squad member.

Known primarily as a first five-eighth, Maliepo joins a cohort of rugby union players transitioning to the Warriors, including Black Ferns stars Michaela Brake (formerly Blyde), Tysha Ikenasio, and Shakira Baker.

Expressing his enthusiasm, NRLW head coach Ron Griffiths praised Maliepo’s diverse skill set, highlighting her proficiency in running, kicking, and passing, as well as her exceptional vision. Griffiths looks forward to seeing her play an instinctive game with the freedom to showcase her talents.

Maliepo’s rugby journey began in 2019 when she debuted for Auckland in the Farah Palmer Cup at just 16 years old. Reflecting on her decision to join the Warriors, Maliepo shared her excitement for the new challenges ahead, emphasizing the positive impression Griffiths made on her and the welcoming environment he fostered.

Having previously played in the inaugural women’s Super Rugby clash for the Blues against the Chiefs in 2021 and earned her Black Ferns Test debut at 18 against England, Maliepo brings a wealth of experience to the Warriors’ lineup.

With Maliepo’s signing, the Warriors now have one final spot to complete their squad, gearing up for a promising NRLW season ahead.
