Prime Minister Narendra Modi has celebrated the opening of the new Amravati Airport in Maharashtra, saying it’s a big win for the state, particularly the Vidarbha region.
“Top news for Maharashtra, especially the Vidarbha region. An active airport in Amravati will give commerce and connectivity a boost,” PM Modi said in a post on X, responding to a post by Union Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu Kinjarapu.
The Amravati Airport was officially opened on Wednesday by Union Minister for Civil Aviation Ram Mohan Naidu, with Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Deputy CMs Eknath Shinde and Ajit Pawar in attendance.
Naidu said, “Today marks a historic milestone for Vidarbha! It’s an honour to open Amravati Airport alongside Hon’ble CM Devendra Fadnavis ji, Deputy CMs Eknath Shind ji & Ajit Pawar ji. Under PM Narendra Modi ji’s visionary leadership, this RCS-VGF funded airport takes flight with Alliance Air’s inaugural RCS Amravati-Mumbai flight. We also witnessed a demo flight at what will soon be South Asia’s largest Air India Flying Training Organisation (FTO) – a big leap for India’s overall aviation ecosystem.”
Impact and Analysis:
The opening of the Amravati Airport is a significant development for the Vidarbha region of Maharashtra. It’s expected to:
- Boost the local economy: Improved connectivity will make it easier for businesses to operate in the region and attract investment.
- Enhance tourism: The new airport will make it easier for tourists to reach Amravati and explore the region’s historical and cultural attractions.
- Improve connectivity: The airport will provide better access to other parts of India and the world, making it easier for people to travel for work, study, and personal reasons.
The airport project is also a reflection of the Indian government’s commitment to developing infrastructure in rural areas and promoting regional development.
UDAN Yatri Cafe expansion:
The Union Government is also focusing on making air travel more affordable in India. The recent launch of the UDAN Yatri Cafe at Chennai Airport is part of this effort, offering budget-friendly food options at airports across the country. The initiative, which began at Kolkata Airport last year, is being expanded nationwide and will soon be available at Delhi Airport as well.
