President Droupadi Murmu expressed deep sorrow and condemnation over the terrorist attack on tourists in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, describing it as “shocking and painful.” She offered heartfelt condolences to the families of those who lost loved ones and prayed for the swift recovery of the injured.
In a post on X, the Rashtrapati Bhavan stated, “The terrorist attack on tourists in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, is shocking and painful. It is a dastardly and inhuman act which must be condemned unequivocally. Attacking innocent citizens, in this case tourists, is utterly appalling and unpardonable.”
The President’s statement emphasizes the brutality and senselessness of the attack, calling for a united condemnation of such acts of violence. She expressed her deepest sympathy for the victims and their families, offering prayers for their healing and strength.
Meanwhile, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, along with Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, departed for Srinagar to assess the situation and oversee the security response to the attack. This visit underscores the government’s commitment to addressing the situation and ensuring the safety and security of the region.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi also strongly condemned the attack, offering condolences to the bereaved families and assuring all possible assistance to those affected. He vowed that those responsible for this heinous act would be brought to justice, emphasizing the government’s unwavering resolve to combat terrorism.
The attack, which targeted tourists in the Pahalgam area of Anantnag district, has drawn widespread condemnation from political leaders across the spectrum. They have described the attack as an assault on peace and the region’s tourism sector, highlighting the need for decisive action to address the threat of terrorism. Security forces and police personnel were immediately deployed to the site, with ambulances also rushed to the location to provide medical aid.
