The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) paid tribute to the victims of the Pahalgam terror attack during the IPL match between Sunrisers Hyderabad and Mumbai Indians.
BCCI’s Tribute
The BCCI observed a 60-second moment of silence before the start of the match, allowing both in-stadium and broadcast audiences to participate. The captains of both teams offered their condolences and condemned the attack during the toss. Players, match officials, commentators, and support staff wore black armbands throughout the match. The BCCI also chose to conduct the game without fanfare, ensuring a dignified atmosphere.
BCCI’s Statement
Devajit Saikia, Honorary Secretary of the BCCI, expressed the cricketing community’s shock and anguish over the loss of innocent lives. He condemned the attack in the strongest possible terms and extended condolences to the bereaved families.
Government Response
Union Home Minister Amit Shah visited the Government Medical College in Anantnag to meet with the injured victims of the attack. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh expressed deep sorrow and vowed that the government would respond with firm action against terrorism.
Amit Shah reviewed the security situation at the attack site in Pahalgam’s Baisaran meadow and was briefed by top officials on the ongoing operations. A National Investigation Agency (NIA) team has joined the probe to assist the Jammu and Kashmir Police.
