Celebrities Condemn the Attack
- Akshay Kumar: One of the first to react, Kumar called the attack “sheer evil” and offered prayers for the families of the victims.
- Shahid Kapoor: Taking to Instagram, Kapoor condemned the incident as a “cowardly act of terrorism” and expressed deep pain over the loss of innocent lives.
- Shraddha Kapoor: Kapoor also took to Instagram, urging her followers to pray for the victims’ families.
- Shah Rukh Khan: SRK expressed his sadness and anger over the attack, calling it a “treacherous and inhumane act of violence.” He urged the nation to stand united and seek justice.
- Salman Khan: Khan expressed his heartbreak over the attack, lamenting the loss of innocent lives in Kashmir, once considered a “heaven” on Earth. He called for unity and condemned the violence.
Government Response
Prime Minister Narendra Modi chaired a meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) on Wednesday, hours after returning from Saudi Arabia. The meeting was attended by Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, and External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar.
Amit Shah, who chaired a security review meeting in Srinagar, also visited the site of the terror attack in Baisaran Meadow in Pahalgam. A National Investigation Agency (NIA) team has been deployed to assist local police in the investigation. Security forces have launched search operations to track down the terrorists responsible, and security has been heightened.
