Imphal, India – In a significant operation, Manipur Police destroyed three bunkers and seized a large cache of arms, ammunition, and explosives in the Tengnoupal district during search operations aimed at securing vulnerable areas in the hill and valley districts. The operation reflects the state’s intensified efforts to combat illegal activities and ensure public safety.
Details of the Seizure
The police recovered:
- 8 Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs)
- 8 locally made hand grenades
- 25 electric detonators
- 5 No. 8 detonators
- 40 rounds of 5.56 mm INSAS ammunition
- 60 rounds of 7.62 mm AK ammunition
- 1 Motorola set with charger
The operation took place in the Saivom village area, under Tengnoupal Police Station, and resulted in the destruction of three bunkers.
Previous Operations
On 26 April, six IEDs were recovered from T Minou village in Tengnoupal district and successfully defused by a bomb disposal team. The same operation led to the arrest of two active members of the banned outfit KCP (Noyon):
- Shagolshem Lemba Meitei (43)
- Shagolshem Romen Meitei (40)
Items seized from the individuals included a four-wheeler, two mobile phones, and two wallets.
Additional Efforts
Manipur Police conducted another operation on 26 April, recovering seven stolen vehicles and removing tinted glasses from 207 vehicles to enhance security measures.
Earlier, on 25 April, security forces searched the residence of Wangmayum Barul Alam in Thoubal District, seizing:
- 3.9 kg of brown sugar
- Suspected heroin powder (12 grams per case in seven soap cases)
- 0.53 grams of brown sugar
- Seven 100 ml Codeine bottles
- Seven mobile phones
