BJP MP Sudhanshu Trivedi has launched a scathing attack on Samajwadi Party (SP) chief Akhilesh Yadav, accusing him of disrespecting Sanatana Dharma and spreading misinformation regarding the Maha Kumbh Mela. Trivedi’s strong rebuttal follows Yadav’s criticism of the BJP government’s handling of the Kumbh Mela and the broader economic situation.
Trivedi accused Yadav and his party of consistently denigrating Sanatana Dharma, referring to past instances where the SP had used derogatory terms to describe the religious tradition. He forcefully countered Yadav’s concerns about sanitation at the Kumbh Mela, arguing that the massive turnout of approximately 60 crore pilgrims belies any suggestion of widespread health issues resulting from unsanitary conditions. Trivedi’s statement, “Man Maila Aur Tan Ko Dhoye,” (the mind is dirty, but the body is washed), suggests that the SP’s criticism stems from internal moral failings rather than genuine concerns about the Kumbh Mela’s organization.
Akhilesh Yadav’s criticism focused on two main points: the BJP government’s economic performance and the arrangements made for the Maha Kumbh Mela. He accused the government of failing to deliver on its promises of economic growth, job creation, and income doubling. He also expressed serious concerns about the Kumbh’s organization, citing issues such as food shortages, stampedes, and accidents, specifically referencing the January 29 stampede that resulted in 30 casualties. Yadav argued that the government’s claims of preparedness for 100 crore pilgrims were demonstrably false, given the reported problems faced by attendees. He further suggested extending the Kumbh Mela’s duration to allow more pilgrims to participate.
The contrasting statements from Trivedi and Yadav highlight a significant political divide. Trivedi’s response frames Yadav’s criticism as a deliberate attempt to undermine a sacred religious event and disrespect Hindu beliefs. Yadav, on the other hand, uses the Kumbh Mela as a case study to highlight broader concerns about the BJP government’s governance and its failure to deliver on its promises. This exchange reflects the ongoing political battle between the BJP and the SP in Uttar Pradesh, with the Maha Kumbh serving as a focal point for broader criticisms of the ruling party’s performance.
