Delhi BJP Unveils Election Committee, Holds Strategy Meeting Amidst AAP’s Early Candidate Announcement

NEW DELHI — The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Delhi announced its State Election Committee Wednesday, setting the stage for the 2025 assembly elections. The committee includes prominent figures such as Delhi BJP chief Virendra Sachdeva, Leader of Opposition Vijender Gupta, and Union Ministers Harsh Malhotra and Harsh Vardhan. Several BJP MPs, including Manoj Tiwari, Yogender Chandoliya, Kamaljeet Sehrawat, Ramvir Singh Bidhuri, Praveen Khandelwal, and Bansuri Swara, also secured spots on the committee.

Concurrently, a core group meeting took place at Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s Parliament House office, focusing on the upcoming Delhi elections. Attendees included election in-charge Baijayant Panda, Sachdeva, and several Delhi MPs.

The meetings follow a Tuesday night gathering chaired by BJP national president JP Nadda, where discussions reportedly centered on the Delhi elections, internal party elections, and other key issues. Sources indicate that the BJP’s first candidate list for the Delhi assembly elections will be released shortly. K Laxman’s appointment as National Election Officer, in light of the party’s organizational elections, was also confirmed. The upcoming Good Governance Day and Veer Bal Diwas commemorations were also on the agenda.

This flurry of activity contrasts sharply with the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), which has already declared its full slate of 70 candidates for the Delhi assembly polls. AAP’s dominant performance in the 2015 (67 seats) and 2020 (62 seats) elections underscores the challenge facing the BJP, which increased its seat count from three to eight in the 2020 elections, while the Congress remained shut out.
