A tragic maritime accident near Mumbai has claimed the lives of 13 people after an Indian Navy boat collided with the passenger ferry Neelkamal, causing it to capsize. The ferry, en route from the Gateway of India to Elephanta Caves, overturned around 3:55 pm on Wednesday.

President Droupadi Murmu also offered her sympathies and prayers for the success of the ongoing rescue efforts. Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Aaditya Thackrey expressed concern for the passengers’ safety.
The Navy boat involved in the collision sustained heavy casualties as well, with four of its six crew members losing their lives and one critically injured. The Neelkamal reportedly carried approximately 110 passengers, including 20 children, according to Indian Navy officials. Nine of the injured were treated at St. George’s Hospital, where their condition was reported as stable thanks to the use of life jackets.
