New Delhi, India – India has strongly rejected the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) statement regarding the Pahalgam terror attack, calling it “absurd” and accusing Pakistan of manipulating the OIC Group. The rejection was delivered by Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal on Tuesday.
India’s Response to OIC
Jaiswal asserted that the OIC has no right to interfere in India’s internal affairs, stating: “The OIC statement, issued at the behest of Pakistan, is absurd in refusing to recognise the facts of the Pahalgam terrorist attack and its cross-border linkages.”
He further condemned Pakistan’s alleged attempt to mislead the OIC: “This is yet another attempt by Pakistan, a country that has long engaged in cross-border terrorism, to manipulate and misguide the OIC Group to issue a self-serving statement. We reject the OIC’s interference on matters that are internal to India.”
OIC’s Stand and Pakistan’s Diplomatic Moves
Despite global condemnation of the 22 April Pahalgam terror attack, which killed 26 people, the OIC expressed solidarity with Pakistan, ignoring concerns about the terror incident’s cross-border links.
According to ARY News, the OIC Group commended the UN Secretary-General’s offer to de-escalate tensions and urged the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) and other influential nations to take credible measures.
UNSC Meeting and Tough Questions for Pakistan
Pakistan called for an emergency UNSC consultation under international pressure, but in the closed-door meeting, members reportedly dismissed Pakistan’s “false flag” narrative.
- UNSC members questioned whether the Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT)—a proscribed terror organisation with ties to Pakistan—was involved.
- The discussion included concerns over the targeting of tourists based on their religious faith.
- There was broad condemnation of the terror attack and calls for accountability.
Notably, no formal statement was issued by the UNSC following these closed discussions, undermining Pakistan’s diplomatic push.
India’s Firm Stand on National Security
India has taken several countermeasures following the attack, including:
- Suspending the Indus Waters Treaty.
- Reducing diplomatic presence in Pakistan’s High Commission.
- Strengthening cross-border security protocols.
Looking Ahead
With tensions heightened between India and Pakistan, India continues to reinforce its national security stance and push for global accountability regarding cross-border terrorism. The rejection of the OIC’s statement marks another firm diplomatic stance against external interference in India’s internal matters.
