London, UK – Former UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak expressed strong support for India’s strike against terrorist infrastructure, following Operation Sindoor—a targeted mission to eliminate terror hideouts in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoJK) in response to the Pahalgam terror attack.
Taking to X (formerly Twitter), Sunak stated: “No nation should have to accept terrorist attacks being launched against it from land controlled by another country. India is justified in striking terrorist infrastructure. There can be no impunity for terrorists.”
UK Government Urges Restraint and Dialogue
In contrast, UK Foreign Secretary David Lammy urged India and Pakistan to practice restraint and engage in direct dialogue to prevent escalation.
“Current tensions between India and Pakistan are a serious concern. The UK government is urging both countries to show restraint and engage in direct dialogue to find a swift, diplomatic path forward,” Lammy stated.
He emphasized that both India and Pakistan share strong ties with the UK, adding: “If this escalates further, nobody wins. We need all sides to work urgently to see regional stability restored and ensure the protection of civilians.”
Operation Sindoor: India’s Response to Pahalgam Attack
Following the 22 April Pahalgam terror attack, India launched Operation Sindoor, targeting nine terror camps in Pakistan and PoJK.
Key strike locations included:
- Muridke, known for training David Headley and Ajmal Kasab (perpetrators of the 2008 Mumbai attacks).
- Sarjal Camp, Sialkot
- Markaz Ahle Hadith
- Barnala & Markaz Abbas, Kotli
- Mehmoona Joya Camp, Sialkot
Wing Commander Vyomika Singh confirmed that the targets were carefully selected to avoid civilian casualties and infrastructure damage.
International Response and Security Measures
- The Foreign, Commonwealth, and Development Office (FCDO) is closely monitoring developments and is ready to assist British nationals in the region.
- UK officials continue to evaluate regional stability, urging diplomatic solutions.
Indian Leadership Stands Firm
Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri highlighted the brutality of the Pahalgam attack, stating: “The attack was marked with extreme barbarity, with victims killed at close range in front of their families… The objective was to undermine normalcy returning to Kashmir.”
