New Delhi, India – Several major sporting events in India have been suspended or postponed due to the escalating cross-border tensions between India and Pakistan.
Pakistan’s Drone and Missile Attacks
On 9 May, Pakistan launched a series of coordinated drone and missile strikes along India’s western border, targeting several regions.
- India’s air defense systems, including the S-400 missile defense system, intercepted the attacks, preventing significant damage.
- Pakistan’s actions are believed to be in retaliation for India’s Operation Sindoor, which targeted terror camps in Pakistan and PoJK following the 22 April Pahalgam terror attack, where 26 tourists were killed.
IPL 2025 Suspended
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced the immediate suspension of the remainder of IPL 2025 for one week, citing security concerns and stakeholder consultations.
BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia stated: “A comprehensive assessment will be conducted before announcing a revised schedule for the tournament.”
Neeraj Chopra Classic Postponed
The inaugural edition of the NC Classic 2025, scheduled for 24 May at Sree Kanteerava Stadium, Bengaluru, has been postponed indefinitely.

Bengal Pro T20 League Delayed
The Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) has also postponed Bengal Pro T20 League Season 2 and related pre-events until further notice.
