A massive 10-day cleanliness drive in Bengaluru, organised by the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP), has seen significant progress in its first two days. The drive has successfully cleared approximately 3,570 tons of waste and building debris from 458 locations across the city.
Focus on Waste Removal and Environmental Cleanliness
The drive, which is being carried out across all eight zones of the city, aims to clear waste, construction and demolition (C&D) waste, and wooden logs/branches from roadsides and vacant lots within the BBMP limits. Zonal Commissioners are personally visiting the sites where the cleanliness work is being done, providing on-site supervision.
Progress and Targets
Of the 1,533 identified locations, 458 have already been cleared, representing 30% of the targeted areas. The remaining 1,075 locations will be cleared in the coming days. The cleaning work is being carried out using a fleet of heavy machinery, including more than 13 JCBs, more than 10 tippers, more than 60 tractors, and more than 170 personnel.
Citizen Participation and Complaint Mechanism
The BBMP is appealing to all citizens to dispose of their waste responsibly by giving it to the auto tippers that visit every house daily. They urge residents not to throw waste on roadsides or in empty spaces. Citizens are encouraged to report any instances of garbage being thrown in the city by calling the corporation’s helpline number, 1533, or by filing complaints through the Sahay 2.0 software.
Commitment to Cleanliness
The cleanliness drive reflects Bengaluru’s commitment to maintaining a clean environment for all its residents. The successful removal of a significant amount of waste in the first two days of the drive demonstrates the dedication of the BBMP and its staff to achieving this goal. The drive is expected to continue for the next eight days, with the BBMP aiming to complete the cleanup of all identified locations.
