Indian Tourism to Russia Takes Off, Mutual Visits Expected to Reach 450,000 by 2025

The number of Indian tourists heading to Russia is taking off, with over 120,000 visitors in 2024, double the number from the previous year. This upsurge in tourism has sparked predictions that mutual visits between the two countries could reach 450,000 by 2025.

The Indian Embassy in Moscow shared the data with TV BRICS, highlighting the growing popularity of Russia as a destination for Indian travellers.

“If this trend continues, the mutual tourist flow could potentially surpass 450,000 by 2025,” the diplomatic mission said.

While Indian tourists are discovering the charms of Russia, Russians are also keen on exploring India, with around 160,000 Russians travelling to India in 2023, exceeding the combined total for 2021 and 2022.

Boosting Tourist Flows:

Several factors are contributing to this upsurge in tourism between India and Russia. These include:

  • Simplified travel procedures: A streamlined visa process for athletes and coaches has been introduced, making it easier for these groups to visit each other’s countries.
  • Expanding air links: More direct flights between India and Russia are being established, making travel more accessible and affordable.
  • Cultural exchanges: Growing cultural exchanges and joint events in various sectors are fostering stronger ties and increasing awareness of each other’s cultures.
  • Interest in liberalising the visa regime: The Indian side has expressed interest in further relaxing visa rules, particularly extending the validity period of electronic visas.

A Growing Partnership:

The increasing number of tourists between India and Russia reflects the growing partnership between the two countries. This trend is likely to continue, with both countries benefiting from the economic and cultural exchanges that tourism brings.

In July, Moscow will host the first-ever large-scale tourism congress with the participation of specialists from relevant departments and leading companies from both Russia and India. This event will be a key opportunity to further strengthen ties and explore new opportunities for collaboration in the tourism sector.

This surge in tourism is a positive sign for both India and Russia, demonstrating the strong bond between the two countries.
