Washington DC, US – US Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Landau held talks with Indian Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri on Friday, discussing ongoing efforts to promote prosperity and security in the Indo-Pacific region. The discussion focused on strengthening bilateral trade relations, enhancing defense and technology collaboration, and boosting security and prosperity throughout the Indo-Pacific.
Landau expressed appreciation for India’s assistance in addressing illegal immigration to the United States and requested continued cooperation on this issue.
The meeting comes amidst a broader context of US-India cooperation, with the US Embassy in India recently taking action against visa appointment fraud. The embassy cancelled approximately 2,000 visa appointments made by bots, emphasizing a zero-tolerance policy for agents and fixers who violate scheduling policies.
Meanwhile, India’s Ministry of External Affairs confirmed that the US has deported 55 Indian nationals who arrived in India via Panama since January 20, 2025. These individuals were deported under a bilateral arrangement, with Panama facilitating their return to New Delhi. The Ministry of External Affairs continues to engage with the US to ensure the safe return of all verified Indian nationals.
